Top 10 movie quotes about wine

1.  “Wine is like people. The wine takes all the influences in life all around it, it absorbs them and it gets its personality." - A French Kiss

(Words of wisdow, indeed.)

2. "Take a few lessons. Grow some grapes. Make some good wine. You cannot do it that way. … You have to have it in your blood. You have to grow up with the soil underneath your nails, and the smell of the grape in the air that you breathe. The cultivation of the vine is an art form. The refinement of its juice is a religion that requires pain and desire and sacrifice." - Bottle shock

(Come to Portugal, experience the Douro Culture, Gustavo. Then you'll know about passion and great wine making! )

3. "A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti." - Hannibal

(we got nothing for this one. brrr)

4. "I myself subscribe more to the European philosophy of life, my priorities leaning towards wine, women and, well that's about it." - Alfie

(yes, Alfie, we can show you every Portuguese wine out there! Come, come a little closer.)

5. "Oh, actually all champagne is French, it’s named after the region. Otherwise it’s sparkling white wine. Americans of course don’t recognize the convention so it becomes that thing of calling all of their sparkling white champagne, even though by definition they’re not." - Wayne's World

(hey, know-it-all, just shut up!)

6. "“I never drink…wine.” - Dracula

(oh...your highness...err.. , you would drink a portuguese one, for sure!)

7. " I love how wine continues to evolve, how every time I open a bottle it’s going to taste different than if I had opened it on any other day. Because a bottle of wine is actually alive — it’s constantly evolving and gaining complexity. That is, until it peaks — like your ‘61 — and begins its steady, inevitable decline. And it tastes so fucking good." - Sideways

(poor souls, they don't even know about the golden Douro valley...)

8. "My dear girl, there are some things that just aren’t done, such as drinking Dom Perignon ‘53 above the temperature of 38 degrees Fahrenheit. That’s just as bad as listening to the Beatles without earmuffs!" - Goldfinger

(007, we also don't forget to mention Port wine as well.)

9. "I can certainly see that you know your wine. Most of the guests who stay here wouldn't know the difference between Bordeaux and Claret." - Fawlty Towers

(somebody needs to learn their wines (portuguese, portuguese, portuguese)

10. " I like to drink wine more than I used to". - The Godfather

(yes, we get you bro. specially if the wine is portuguese)

Cool and elegance in the bootle: wine of the week!

Chão da Quinta - Red Wine
Chão da Quinta - Red Wine

Our wine of the week is from Chão de São Francisco. The Quinta de S. Francisco goes back to the XVIII century, it used to be the main house of the Viscount of Treixedo in Lourosa de Cima, with majestic gardens, whose beauty was developed in baroque style, in a city known as "the most baroque of Portugal".

This Chão da Quinta is a wine from the region of Viseu, which is a region full of gastronomy delicacies and rich in folklore and cultural experience, is kind of perfect to be a wine's birth place!

It's a wine that presents himself with elegance and coolness,  with shiny and brilliant ruby color that has a hint of purple. The scent of this wine it has a tone of ripe red fruits, plumps and blackberries, together with a light touch of rare spices such as black pepper, cocoa and vanilla. As you taste it it reveals a nice structure and volume. You are going to drink this wine but, as the years go by, if by accident you kept it in the bottle you will be surprised by how well it has evolved.

Moscatel do Douro 1989 is a special wine from a special year.

A limpid wine, with brilliant golden tones with the typical aroma of this variety of wine, sweet with a hint of raisins and the presence of a tangerine somewhere. An elegant flavor pours through your lips, leaving you a taste of glycerin. We recommend it is served chilled and is especially enjoyable with dried fruits.

Moscatel sweet wine

Introducing Favaios wine, a rare gem from deep in Portugal wine country.

The Favaios village is is located on the center of Douro area. The climate of this specific village is extreme: very cold winters and very hot summers.

The  fame of  Favaios is due to the sweet aroma of Moscatel galego but it's true origins are lost in time, it's believed that it's name is linked to a roman emperor, Flavius.

A Adega de Favaios is the only house solemnly dedicated to the exploration of these wines. The winery features different types of muscat wine, from the basic white and reds to sparkling, vintage and reserve, as well as aperitif wines. They also have a large variety of  Ports wine.

Calheiros Cruz Reserva

2011: The golden year of Port Wine

The year of 2011 was a good one for our port wines producers!

Port's wine 2011 isn't in stores yet but promises to make many mouths salivate

It will be the biggest declaration of vintage for a long time. these port wines are exquisite and a rare find.

The rare declaration was already made for 40 brands of Port, so this means that the all of the specialists came to the conclusion that these specific kind of wines are outstanding. In 2011, the temperatures in Douro region were very mild and the rain only fell in small doses which elevated the water reservoirs, after a long and rainy winter. In a nutshell, the weather was perfect for the birth of a vintage wine.

It will take years for vintage wines to become available. But you can fin on the market other harvests like 1985 or 1991, 1994, so you can enjoy them and you won't regret to have a taste from the vintage collection.
