Caves da Montanha’s brands Montanha Real Grande Reserva sparkling wine and Quinta da Gândara Red and White DOC Dão triumphed at Challenge International du Vin.

This international competition is organized in Borg, France, where more than 5000 wines from 38 countries are tasted by approximately 800 wine professionals and wine lovers alike, over two days, each spring. The Challenge International du Vin is the longest running international wine competition and it’s certified by the declaration of ISO 9001, which guarantees a high-quality approach and the application of rigorous technical standards.

Caves da Montanha is a portuguese beverage company, based in Anadia - one of the most traditional and vibrant wine regions in Portugal. Founded in 1943 by Adriano Henriques, the company is family owned and is managed by the 4th generation.

Chão da Quinta - Red Wine

Our wine of the week is from Chão de São Francisco. The Quinta de S. Francisco goes back to the XVIII century, it used to be the main house of the Viscount of Treixedo in Lourosa de Cima, with majestic gardens, whose beauty was developed in baroque style, in a city known as "the most baroque of Portugal".

This Chão da Quinta is a wine from the region of Viseu, which is a region full of gastronomy delicacies and rich in folklore and cultural experience, is kind of perfect to be a wine's birth place!

It's a wine that presents himself with elegance and coolness,  with shiny and brilliant ruby color that has a hint of purple. The scent of this wine it has a tone of ripe red fruits, plumps and blackberries, together with a light touch of rare spices such as black pepper, cocoa and vanilla. As you taste it it reveals a nice structure and volume. You are going to drink this wine but, as the years go by, if by accident you kept it in the bottle you will be surprised by how well it has evolved.

Super premium, Super wine.

To kick off this week with a great wine, we decided to select a Quinta da Basília - Super Premium Red Wine. If you have the change to try it, this is a wild one!

Bottled way back in 2010, this super premium red wine from Quinta da Basilica, it's full of spices and floral notes. It leaves a persistent and lingering aftertaste, it has a remarkable structure an balance : great acidity and a silky tannis!

This super premium is spunky! There is no superman who can top that.

This Dão of mine!

The Dão region is located right in the middle of the Portuguese wine regions. The area enjoys a temperate climate due to the factor that's surrounded by 3 mountains : Serra da Estrela, Serra do Caramulo and Serra da Nave. Being away of the Atlantic Ocean has it's upsides: abundant rains in the winter and long, warm periods in the summer. What also helps is the soil, here, the vineyards are on a sandy well drained soil with granite rock.

All of these key elements turns wine into pure bottled greatness.

DOC red wine - Casa do Brasão

I'm happy to tell you that we are growing each day.
These two days, we received packages from our producers, packages we are going to put to a great use: tempt you.
In one of the boxes, was the spectacular red wine from CASA DO BRASÃO.
Next week we'll be featuring one of the wines from this house but we're going to let you decide about which one you'd like to know more:

a) the beautiful red?
b) the light white?
c) the misterious rosé?

A lost flower in Douro - Wine of the week

Flor das Tecedeiras

REGION: Douro

From centenarian vineyards, Flor das Tecedeiras is a a red wine made with a combination of varieties, such as: Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca, Tinto Cão, Tinta Barroca and Tinta amarela grapes.

This wine has a limpid ruby look with abundant violet tones, as it passes through your mouth it leaves a taste of fruit, elegant and very harmonious. The aroma of Flor das Tecedeiras is intense, full of ripe forest fruits, red fruit jelly, toasted notes and floral nuances. Flor de Tecedeiras is best served with steamed or grilled red meat, game and well-structured cheese, consume at 18ºC.
